Oi-Lam Ng

My passion for mathematics education has led me to SFU to pursue a PhD in 2011. Conducting mathematics education research in the classroom has been very enlightening and rewarding. My doctoral research was funded by the SSHRC Doctoral Fellowhip (2014-2016). My interest is on the design and use of dynamic geometry technology (presented on touchscreen devices) for teaching and learning calculus concepts. In particular, I examine how a dynamic, touchscreen environment may influence calculus thinking and support communication for students with diverse linguistic backgrounds. In addition, I am interested in the role of touchscreen-dragging in mathematical thinking and learning.

I completed my PhD in mathematics education at SFU in January 2016 and am currently serving as an assistant professor in the Faculty of Education at the Chinese University of Hong Kong.
