Lifetime achievement award

Ezzat Fattah, professor emeritus of criminology and founder of SFU’s School of Criminology, has received a lifetime achievement award for his work and service to the field of international criminology and in particular, victimology.

Dr. Fattah is recipient of the Hermann Mannheim prize from the International Society for Criminology, which presents this prestigious prize once every five years. Dr. Fattah is renowned for his outspoken criticism of the victim movement, whose demands, he says, are punitive and vindictive. He was an early advocate of restorative justice. Dr. Fattah was the recipient of a 1999 Sterling prize for controversy.

The International Society for Criminology promotes activities and research designed to further a better understanding of crime and crime prevention.
