Walk and Lunch in Chinatown

April 07, 2010

Time: 10:00AM–12:30PM

The next SFURA walk is on Wednesday, April 7 at 10:00 a.m. in Vancouver's Chinatown. Fred Wong will lead the walk.

Directions to the meeting spot:
We will meet at the interior central courtyard of International Village: the Abbott and Keefer Entrance. If you arrive early, you can buy coffee at the Starbucks west of the entrance.

By Public Transportation:
Fred assumes that many walkers will want to take Translink, and the route of course depends on where you are coming from: You can take the Skytrain to the Stadium Chinatown Station exit, or take one of numerous buses. For example, bus nos. 19 and 22 stop at Abbott and Pender; nos. 10, 16 and 20 stop at Hastings and Abbott.

By Car:
The route to Chinatown of course depends on where you are coming from. If you need specific directions, phone Fred at 604-421-0964. You will find parking lots at International Village: entrance on east-side of Abbott between Pender and Keefer; and at Flota Restaurant Parkade at Keefer and Columbia. There is also metered street parking.

The route we will walk:
Fred's itinerary will be unspecific. He has long-term experience with the area. He was born in Chinatown in 1941, and he lived there until 1952 when his family moved to another part of Vancouver. He will give us a tour of the old and new areas of this historic region, and will show us some of the more 'intriguing' places.

We will stop for lunch at about 11:30 am, probably at the Jade Dynasty Restaurant.

If you have questions, you can email Fred Wong or phone him at 604-421-0964.
