Ganja Research Adventures in Jamaica

TIME: 11:30 - 12:30

DATE:  February  21, 2017

SPEAKER:  Prof. Marilyn Bowman

ABSTRACT:  Marilyn Bowman spent months in Jamaica during 1971 doing neuropsychological  testing with subjects to discover the effects of long-term marijuana use, locally called ganja, in users and matched controls. The political situation was volatile, as recounted in Man Booker – prize-winner Marlon James’ recent novel, and gang violence was increasing. Ganja possession and use was illegal and Prof. Bowman had some interesting adventures.
