INTRODUCTION

Maintaining effective access control at Simon Fraser University while supporting around the clock academic research and study is pivotal to the University’s ongoing success. This requires considerations to ensure personal safety while at the same time implementing measures to safeguard SFU’s physical and intellectual assets. To best meet the needs of the campus community, we employ a mix of mechanical (locks and keys) and electronic (access cards and alarms) devices.

Managing access for a community with a peak population in excess of 20,000 people is not without its challenges. We continue to work together with community stakeholders to reach needs-based solutions which still keep our primary goals in mind.
