Welcome to The Stavros Niarchos Foundation Centre for Hellenic Studies at SFU. The Centre is committed to the study and teaching of Greek history language and culture. Fundamental to this endeavor is the application of innovative technology to enhance the learning experience for the student and scholar.
The aim of the Centre is to make Hellenic Studies accessible to university and non-university students with teaching and research as the cornerstone of the Centre’s activities. These tasks are accomplished by training future scholars in Greek history, language and culture. The Centre is dedicated to the survival of Greek studies both in the West and in Asia.
The Hellenic Canadian Congress of BC Chair in Hellenic Studies
The Hellenic Studies Chair was established in 1996 by the Hellenic Canadian Congress of BC to create a program of Greek studies at Simon Fraser University. The Hellenic Studies Program, which is part of the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Centre for Hellenic Studies offers courses in Greek and Byzantine History, Greek language and Culture. Dr. Andre Gerolymatos is the current chair holder. Dr. Gerolymatos is Professor of History and Director of the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Centre for Hellenic Studies. In addition to his expertise in military and diplomatic history as well as Modern Greek history, Dr. Gerolymatos was trained in classical Greek studies and specialized in epigraphy and textual criticism.
