About Us

Safety and Risk Services comprises of five service units including:
Administrative Structure
Safety and Risk Services (SRS) is a service department reporting to the Vice President Finance and Administration, Dr. Pat Hibbitts. The senior administrative manager of the department is the Chief Safety Officer, Dr. Terry Waterhouse. The department consists of five units including Campus Security, Environmental Health & Safety, Risk Management, Emergency & Continuity Planning and Program & Policy Development.
Mandate
Collectively, the Safety and Risk Services team is dedicated to its mandate of collaboratively enhancing safety and mitigating risks across the SFU community by:
- developing systems that seek to prevent incidents which compromise safety of any member of the community
- reducing the incidence of injuries and risks by proactive trend analysis and planning
- responding in a timely fashion to all incidents related to safety and risk
- supporting individuals impacted by incidents which affect their safety or wellbeing
