The Nora and Ted Sterling Prize in Support of Controversy
was established by Nora and Ted Sterling, the founding chair of computing science at Simon Fraser University, in 1993 to honour and encourage work that provokes and/or contributes to the understanding of controversy. The Sterling Prize is awarded annually to a recipient whose work presents new ways of looking at the world, ways that are daring and creative.

Call for Nominations

The Sterling Prize Committee is looking for nominees whose work challenges complacency. Whether a student, a staff member, or an academic at SFU, or a member of the community who has a connection to the university, the prize winner is selected for decidedly unconventional and distinctly untraditional work that provokes a wide audience.

The winner receives a cash award of $5,000 and makes a public presentation at SFU's Morris J Wosk Centre for Dialogue.

The Committee formally calls for nominations for the Sterling Prize, to be submitted to the Sterling Prize Committee, c/o the Vice-President, Academic office, no later than January 31 each year. Nomination forms and submission guidelines can be found at: www.sfu.ca/sterlingprize/nominations.html
