New Faculty Start-Up Grants and Faculty Recruitment Grants

New Faculty Start-up Grants (NFSG) are available for new Assistant Professors and Faculty Recruitment Grant (FRG) are available for new Associate Professors or Professors.

New Assistant Professors can apply for the New Faculty Start-up Grant (NFSG). New Associate Professors or Professors can apply for the Faculty Recruitment Grant (FRG). To claim your NFSG or FRG, an application to the SFU Research Kuali website must be done online. An NFSG or FRG application can be made on Kuali any time prior to the end of your first full semester in a tenure track position at the level of Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor as listed in your appointment letter.

The process to apply for an NFSG or FRG is found below:

  1. Please apply online on the SFU Kuali Research online application system (https://sfu.kuali.co/). Additional information about the SFU Kuali Research system can be found here (https://www.sfu.ca/research/researcher-resources/funding-award-opportunities/start-funding).
  2. The NFSG or FRG claim form must be filled out and submitted online on SFU Kuali Research system. 
  3. Below are instructions on how to submit the NFSG or FRG application on Kuali:

For SFU NFSG/FRG submissions to Kuali approval workflow please choose:

  • Activity Type: Funded research
  • Lead Unit: Search for and select your department
  • Sponsor Name: SFU New Faculty Start-Up Grants or SFU Faculty Recruitment Grants
  • Funding Program: NFSG or FRG
  • Attachements: Proposal and Budget are mandatory, if you have no budget document, you need to upload the claim form again or a supporting document to satisfy system requirements
