Our overall goal for the project was to contribute to public discussion about urban waterfront transformation and work. The proposition of the partnership was that intersecting and overlapping sites of learning are required to ‘reclaim’ more complete understandings of the waterfront. We operationalized this proposition through a series of activities that each involved two (or more) New Westminster-based individuals and groups. Our research showed more complexity and diversity than the dominant story of contemporary waterfronts as sanitized, post-industrial, non-work spaces.
