Mr. Evan Accettola

Evan Accettola is a Métis scholar, healthcare professional, and advocate dedicated to advancing multispecies justice and Indigenous sovereignty within institutional frameworks.

Currently serving as the Graduate Student Representative on the Board of Governors and a Senator at Simon Fraser University (SFU), Evan brings a deep commitment to student advocacy and the integration of traditional Indigenous knowledge into university governance. His connection to SFU is rooted in his experience as both an alum and a current graduate student who champions equitable representation for the diverse campus community. 

Evan is a Master of Arts candidate in the Department of Sociology and Anthropology, where his research investigates the sociological relationships between humans and trees through the lens of vegetal sociology. Alongside his academic pursuits, he is a practicing Registered Practical Nurse in Ontario (CNO) and has co-authored nursing textbook chapters focused on anti-racist frameworks and inclusive clinical practice.

He previously served in prominent leadership roles within the Métis Nation of Ontario, including President of the Youth Council and Youth Representative on the Provisional Council. Evan holds a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology with distinction from SFU and several specialized certificates including Indigenous knowledges and emergency management. In addition to being a recipient of the SFU FASS Deans Undergraduate Fellowship and the Canadian Sociological Association’s Outstanding Graduating Student Award, he also dedicates time to volunteering with organizations such as Kids Help Phone Crisis Text Line.
