Announcing our Interim Executive Director, Laurie Anderson
This message is posted on behalf of Catherine Dauvergne, Vice-President Academic and Provost and Joanne Curry, Vice-President, External Relations.
We are pleased to announce that Dr. Laurie Anderson has been appointed to the interim role of Executive Director of the Morris J. Wosk Centre for Dialogue as of April 4th and until a permanent Executive Director is recruited. Laurie, who will retain his duties as Executive Director of SFU Vancouver, shares a deep passion and appreciation of dialogue and engagement and is very familiar with the people, programs, services and mandate of the Centre. He has co-facilitated many high-profile projects over the years such as the City of Vancouver Mayor’s Task Force on Housing Affordability.
Many of you may know that Shauna Sylvester announced last October that she will be leaving the Centre after 15 years to pursue her passion for climate action in cities. Shauna will remain with the Centre in a teaching capacity until August 31, including instructing the Semester in Trust, Money & Power: Funding Change this May and June. Graduates from this class will join a growing community of more than one-thousand alumni since the Semester in Dialogue was founded by Mark Winston twenty years ago.
A social entrepreneur, Shauna founded a number of ground-breaking programs at SFU, including Canada’s World, Carbon Talks, Renewable Cities and SFU Public Square. Over her tenure as Executive Director, Shauna has grown the Centre and deepened its impact. Legacies of this period will include one of the most active climate action hubs in Canada, a growing national and international reputation as a leader in dialogue methodology, a range of demonstration projects that have raised the bar for participatory democracy in Canada, a successful social enterprise and a programming response to COVID-19 that will have lasting impact for the communities we serve. With a renewed programming vision for the physical Wosk Centre building, a growing platform to support community initiatives and Fellowship programs, and exciting new plans underway such as an Indigenous House of Dialogue, the Centre’s future is surely bright.
