SFU Giving Day Is Coming: Thursday, March 26

March 26, 2026

On March 26, SFU will host its first Giving Day, a 24-hour opportunity for our community to come together and support research, dialogue, and action that help build a more just and sustainable future.

In just one day, your gift can help accelerate climate solutions, strengthen community resilience, and power important work happening right here at SFU.

This year, we are spotlighting two initiatives driving meaningful impact.

Renewable Cities

Equity on the Move: Building a Transportation System for All

Public transit use across Metro Vancouver is growing rapidly, especially south of the Fraser River. While ridership is increasing, many riders still face challenges such as late-night commutes, limited schedules, and gaps between regional transit connections.

SFU’s Renewable Cities initiative is working with community partners, including Movement, to explore how transit systems can be designed with equity and inclusion in mind.

In Fall 2026, Renewable Cities will host a community dialogue and fireside chat with a leading North American transportation expert. The event will bring together riders, researchers, and policymakers to share ideas for improving transit across the region.

Your support helps make conversations like these possible and moves us closer to building a transportation system that works for everyone.

Mitigating Wildfire Initiative

Reclaiming the Spark

The Mitigating Wildfire Initiative (MWI) at SFU’s Centre for Dialogue convenes researchers, practitioners, communities, governments, and Indigenous leaders to advance collaborative solutions to catastrophic wildfire, one of the defining challenges of our time. Through research, dialogue, and partnership, the initiative helps build pathways toward wildfire resilience across British Columbia and beyond.

This upcoming summer MWI is partnering with First Nations Emergency Services Society Cultural Fire team, the Fire Stewardship Program, and Cheslatta CarrierWet’suwet’en, and Gitanyow Nations to support land-based learning opportunities on the critical role Indigenous Fire Stewardship plays in revitalizing landscapes and protecting communities.

Your support will make it possible for Indigenous youth, Elders, and Firekeepers to come together on the land to share cultural fire knowledge and strengthen the next generation of Indigenous Fire Stewardship leaders.
