Amina Yasin is a Canadian Institute of Planning award winning urban planner and a community advocate who has worked across Canada for ten (10) years in community, land use and affordable housing development and planning. She is currently the Director, Public Hearing and Planning at the Centre's Renovate the Public Hearing Initiative and a Dialogue Fellow in urban planning, public hearing democracy and housing.  

She has also presented on panels and as a Keynote speaker across Canada and North America on affordable housing, aging-in-place and dementia friendly cities, policy planning, public engagement, and active transportation, with a focus on equitable, disability justice and human rights centered city building and planning principles. 

Today, across Metro Vancouver and Canada, Amina is committed to strengthening, working and advocating across a diversity of boards, committees and commissions.

Amina has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Public Policy, and a Master’s of Science (MSc) degree in Planning and Development.  She is currently the Co-Chair Commissioner of the City of Vancouver Council appointed Vancouver City Planning Commission, a Commission established and mandated under bylaw and the Vancouver Charter to advise City Council and Mayor on planning and development issues that affect the city's future. Amina is also a Board Director with Hogan’s Alley Society, serves on the YWCA City Shift Strategic Advisory Council and is a Planning expert on the City of Vancouver Urban Design Panel as well as served as Co-Chair of the Canadian Institute of Planning Social Equity Committee. 

Amina was recently nominated for the 40th anniversary of the YWCA Vancouver Women of Distinction Award for her community commitment and professional work, she has also been featured and quoted as an urban planning expert, across a diversity of media, city and provincial institutions and advocacy outlets including the Canadian Urban Institute, an expert on the panel to the Chief Coroner of British Columbia – Extreme Heat and Human Mortality report, the CBC, the Tyee, The Guardian, The Vancouver Sun, Curbed, Streetsblog LA, Global News, City News, the Georgia Straight, the Broadbent Institute, Chatelaine and Briarpatch magazine.
