Sustainable Monitoring, Analytics, Reliability, And Twin Technologies For Batteries (SMART)

Our research develops intelligent diagnostic, monitoring, and control technologies that improve the safety, reliability, performance, and lifetime of electrochemical energy storage systems. We combine advanced sensing, electrochemical modeling, physics-guided artificial intelligence, and battery management systems (BMS) to better understand battery behavior and translate advanced diagnostic technologies into practical, real-world solutions for electric vehicles, grid energy storage, and emerging battery chemistries.

Areas of Research

  • Battery Diagnostics and Intelligent Battery Management Systems
  • Core Temperature Estimation and Early Thermal Runaway Detection
  • Physics-Guided Artificial Intelligence for Battery Lifetime Prediction
  • Battery Fault Detection and Cyber-Physical Security
  • Ultrasonic Battery Characterization
  • Translation to Real-World Battery Systems
