Women in Tech Shadow Program

The Women in Tech Shadow Program connects current women* Faculty of Applied Sciences (FAS) students with alumni working in industry.

Through this one-day mentorship opportunity, students gain exposure to a professional workplace, expand their networks, and build confidence as they prepare for co-op and early career opportunities.

Program Goals
  • Support women in STEM by connecting students with industry role models
  • Provide students with early workplace exposure before co-op
  • Build professional networks and mentorship relationships
  • Strengthen alumni connections with SFU

*As part of our efforts to create inclusive, bias-free learning environments that advance gender equity, this women program welcomes gender-diverse people, including but not limited to cis women, trans women, non-binary people, gender non-conforming people, and Two-Spirit people.

How it Works

Program Process

  • Student Shadows: Selected women FAS students spend a day observing, learning, and engaging with their alumni mentor
  • Alumni Hosts: Alumni in established industry roles open their workplace to a student for one day
  • Support: Alumni/student matches will receive a lunch voucher for the day of their visit

Program Timeline

  • January 2026 – Alumni registration
  • February 2026 – Student registration
  • March 2026 – Alumni/student matches confirmed
  • April 2026 – Shadow days (after exams)
  • May 2026 – Wrap-up & appreciation lunch at SFU
