It has been ten years since the US led an invasion into Iraq and although the Second Iraqi War has officially ended, the country is still plagued by violence and death on a daily basis. The Iraqi insurgency, which also began in 2003, continues even today with militant groups performing increasing levels of violence. The withdrawal of international forces had decreased the security for the current government and its citizens.
As a result of the unstable situation, foreign travelers are strongly discouraged from going to Iraq and travelers that must go, such as journalists or various contractors, are advised to prepare for the worst. This includes anti-kidnap training, first aid training, and perhaps even weapons training. SERE (Survival, Evasion, Resistance, Escape) training is also advised in the case of being taken hostage or prisoner. In addition, having some sort of security team would provide advice, support, and safety. While Iraqi Kurdistan is considered as a safer area, it is still recommended to prepare and remain cautious.
Thus, this project is targeted to a very specific group, for people that must go into Baghdad for whatever reason. This may also aid in planning any sort of travel within the city and avoid the high risk zones or areas that have had many IED (Improvised Explosive Device) incidents over the years.
