My Work

Distance and Pathway Analysis in Baghdad, Iraq

Introduction

This project maps out past IED attack locations in Baghdad and attempts to chart out an optimal safe route to get from Baghdad International Airport to the US Embassy. Most of the data was created and cleaned in ArcMap and was imported into IDRISI for spatial analysis.

This project is loosely based on a previous paper I have written for another class, in that they both use the same dataset and deal with the spatial distribution of deaths. However, the paper analyzes the occurence of crime-related deaths in all of Iraq and goes through the political, social, and economical reasons why Iraq had a high death toll. It also focuses more on the "ethnical divide in Baghdad and how that had shifted during and after Saddam Hussein's regime."
