RETURN TO CAMPUS

TRANSITIONING BACK TO CAMPUSES

We look forward to having our community back together on our three campuses. As September approaches, our campuses are already coming back to life.

We have heard you, and know that many are interested in retaining the flexible work options that evolved during the pandemic. We are as well, but we need time to make sure flexible work options also work for our return back to in-person services.

Given the variety of work across our campuses, a one-size-fits-all approach is not possible. We are currently considering options to allow flexibility for employees to work from home. A working group is developing and testing a framework for hybrid-work for the university, aiming for broader roll out in early 2022. Human Resources will connect with leaders to provide more information.

REFLECTIONS FROM SFU'S ANTI-RACISM TRAINING

“It was only last year that I learned about being not only ‘not racist,’ but anti-racist. I wanted to learn more about what it means to be anti-racist and how to put it into practice.”

How can we be better allies and practice anti-racism in the workplace? Learn what three SFU staff members took away from a recent Human Resources workshop exploring anti-racism, microaggressions and allyship.

Andrei Bulatov is one of five researchers, and only the second person ever in Canada, to receive the Gödel Prize known as the most prestigious prize in theoretical computer science. If you’ve ever completed a sudoku puzzle, then you’ve completed a constraint satisfaction problem which he studies and builds algorithms for.

REMINDER: PROVIDE FEEDBACK ON THE RESPECT PROJECT

In response to one of the calls to action in the SFU-ARC Walk This Path With Us report, work is underway on the RESPECT Project. The project aims to create a professional development program at SFU that includes reconcili-action, decolonization, anti-Indigenous racism and Indigenization.

In a recent email, SFU employees were invited to provide feedback to shape the program design. Don’t miss this opportunity to share your thoughts — the survey closes on July 31.

EXPLORE SFU'S 2020 SUSTAINABILITY REPORT

Two months into the implementation of SFU's 2025 sustainability plan, the university moved to remote instruction and much of the world went into lockdown. With a slowdown of on-campus activities, SFU Sustainability spent more time thinking about process, the importance of relationships and the need to do things differently.

Now, they are excited to share SFU’s 2020 annual sustainability report. Learn more about our sustainability achievements, the progress we've made on the sustainability plan and how we can improve for a better tomorrow.

If developing new knowledge on climate change mitigation and adaptation solutions is the type of research project work you are doing, please consider submitting a funding proposal to the Pacific Institute for Climate Solutions. Submission deadline is August 4, 2021 and proposals may be submitted by a team’s principal investigator, who must be an SFU faculty member.

SFU Human Resources have compiled a variety of resources to help you develop transferable skills as part of your ongoing professional development. Topics range from emotional intelligence to software skills and are accessible at any time.
