VOLUNTEER RESEARCH ASSISTANT
Dr. Joanna Peplak and Dr. Hali Kil are seeking a volunteer undergraduate Research Assistant to join our team on the Perspectives and Adjustment of Climate-displaced Teens (PACT) Project. The goals of the PACT Project are to understand how climate-displacement affects youth mental health and well-being and to identify community and social services that can best support these youth.
About the role: The position would be a minimum 6-month appointment starting April 17th, 2026, with the potential to extend the contract or transition to a paid position following the 6-month period contingent upon satisfactory performance. Workload will vary weekly, but applicants may expect to average 8 hours per week. Volunteers will work closely with a team of faculty and graduate and undergraduate students to build research skills. Responsibilities will include participant recruitment, transcription of youth interviews, supporting with coding of youth interviews, data management, compiling flyers and participant facing documents, and other relevant tasks. Work will take place online and in-person on Burnaby campus and Metro Vancouver. Attendance at weekly team meetings over Zoom is mandatory.
Qualifications: Preference for previous experience with using excel sheets, Surveymonkey, Canva, and social media (Tiktok/Instagram). Interest in climate justice and climate equity work is considered an asset. Availability to commit to the role for a minimum of 6 months is required, but a commitment of 1 year would be preferred.
