- President’s Distinguished Community Leadership Award
Terms of Reference
- The award will be given to an individual(s) for their outstanding dedication to the university and their distinguished contribution to the public good within their community.
- "Distinguished community leadership" will be characterized by qualities such as:
- the expression and execution of high purpose and dedication to SFU and the community at large
- impact in the community which authority alone would not explain
- innovative approaches to community concerns and aspirations
- persistent efforts
- contribution to the creation of a strong sense of community
- Nominations will be sought by the President.
- Nominations will be sought each year but in any particular year an award need not necessarily be given.
- The award will be presented at an annual event.
- Posthumous awards will not be granted.
- The purpose of the award is:
- to recognize a dedication to SFU and its values and the importance of community leadership
- to honour those who have demonstrated such leadership
- to undertake a meaningful community project which is unique and which can involve key friends of the University
- to bring attention to Simon Fraser University, its activities and involvement in the community
President’s Distinguished Community Leadership Award Selection Committee
- The Committee will be comprised of previous Award winners, SFU’s President and Vice President, Advancement and Alumni Engagement.
- Notice for nominations will be sought annually. Each nomination must be accompanied by a biography and statement as to why the individual is being nominated. The nominators will remain anonymous.
- The nominating committee shall meet to determine recipient(s).
- The nominees not selected for the Award in the current year will, at the discretion of the committee, be carried forward as nominees for the following year.
