BC Election 2013: All Party Forum on Mental Health & Addictions

Democracy, 2013, Health

SFU Public Square, SFU School of Public Policy and the CMHA BC Division are co-presenting this All Party Forum. This event will provide an opportunity for each party to discuss their platform on mental health and addiction in BC - for this provincial election and beyond.

A representative from each of the four major political parties will be in attendance to answer questions.

The parties will be represented by:

BC Conservatives - Duane Nickull, Candidate for Vancouver - Point Grey

BC Liberals - Andrew Wilkinson, Candidate for Vancouver - Quilchena

BC NDP - Shane Simpson, Candidate for Vancouver

Green Party of BC - Barinder Hans, Candidate for Vancouver - Mount Pleasant

The event will be moderated by Shauna Sylvester, Executive Director of SFU Public Square.

The event will follow this general format:

Each party representative will have time to present opening remarks, followed by a moderated dialogue focused on a series of questions inspired by the recommendations of the CMHA's Vote Mental Health 4 All Campaign. Questions for the candidates will be taken from audience members as well - so be sure to think about questions you may have in advance of the evening!

The first 90 minutes of the evening will be a conversation with the candidates. The last 30 minutes will present audience members with an an opportunity to informally network with candidates and each other, and debrief in small group community reflection dialogues facilitated by SFU students.
