A New Form of Indigenous Archaeology: The Wild Archaeology Experience

How can the study of ancient past benefit modern First Nations communities? As host and lead archaeologist on the Aboriginal People's Television Network Series Wild Archaeology, Rudy Reimer is bringing Indigenous Archaeology to new and wider audiences through alternative media. Dr. Reimer will discuss his experiences bridging the divide between the academy and the community to bring history to life in ways that traditional scholarship never could.

Dr. Rudy Reimer/Yumks is Associate Professor of Archaeology and First Nations Studies at Simon Fraser University and a member of the Squamish Nation. His publications include the geochemical investigations of tool stone materials from across the Pacific Northwest, high elevation alpine archaeology, the importance of Indigenous toponomy, and how it relates to oral history and traditions, the developments of Indigenous perspectives in archaeology and First Nations Studies, the changes in Cultural Resource Management (CRM) archaeology in British Columbia and ancient rock art.
