Transitive and Ever
MFA Graduating Festival and Exhibition
September 10 – 26, 2026
Events at SFU School for the Contemporary Arts, 149 W. Hastings St., Vancouver
Opening: Audain Gallery, September 9, 6 – 9 PM
…transitive and ever…everything going off at various intervals all at once humming and ill harmonizing…the larger ongoing...the cold matter…dark…and the trans of that nimbus…of that…of which…no longer of…sing…the organs gel…become waxy…slowly congeal…a thickening quickens throughout…at first patchy…then a wooden feeling…changing states and stranger codes…I was here and not here I was everywhere and slid easily out of the head and had no shape…
— Quotation from poem “Nocturne” by Peter Gizzi in Now It’s Dark, Wesleyan Press, 2020.
Wyldie Bracewell, Alex Calcagno, Liz Ellis, marcela oñate-trules, Chris Outten, Taha Saraei, Jaeden Walton, Boyu Xu
Transitive and Ever shares the graduating projects of the 2026 MFA in Interdisciplinary Arts cohort at the School for the Contemporary Arts, Simon Fraser University. Through a variety of forms, media and methodologies converging in a collection of work, Transitive and Ever invites visitors to move among each piece, to find themselves in the intervals of everything going off all at once.
Transitive and Ever explores students’ research through ritualistic encounters with their surroundings. The works, including visual art, sound, moving image, and performance, toy with memory and perception, obscurity and coherence, patterns and defiance. They draw from the notion that all things are in constant motion; they shift, they transfer, they transform. Transitive, never fixed, ever.
