Field School and Exchange students
Students participating in a field school or exchange offered through SFU’s International Services for Students (ISS) may be eligible for different types of funding.
Note: Only field schools and exchanges offered through ISS are eligible. Please note that not all exchanges are eligible for student loan funding. Contact a Financial Aid advisor for more information.
We recommend you create a spending plan to review all the costs associated with a field school or exchange. This will assist in planning and securing sufficient resources.
You may want to consider assigning a designate who can interact with SFU on your behalf. See How to Assign a Designate for more information.
Student loan funding
We recommend you apply as early as possible for funding, at least two months before departure (provided you are eligible to receive funding).
Students on exchange must:
- submit a Student Loan Mobility Contract and a copy of the SFU Outbound Exchange Student Acknowledgement to Financial Aid and Awards prior to the completion of any student loan documents
- submit a completed Student Loan Completion of Studies Contract within 45 days of the end of the exchange study period to Financial Aid and Awards to avoid being reported as withdrawn
- Applying for Student loans (BC and Provinces/territories other than BC)
- Maintaining interest-free status (BC residents)
Scholarships and Awards
Full-time students participating in a field school are eligible to apply for SFU scholarships and awards. Additionally, some scholarships and awards are specifically available to students participating in an SFU field school. You must apply for the term in which you are participating in your field school.
Full-time students, including those participating in a field school, are eligible to apply for SFU bursaries. Specific bursaries are available for students participating in an SFU field school. Field school bursaries are awarded during the term that you are participating in your exchange or field school.
See Bursaries for more information.
