Biography

I joined the Department in July 2007, after stints at University College London, Washington State University, and the University of British Columbia. Currently, I am the Canada Research Chair in Human Evolutionary Studies and a Full Professor of Archaeology and Biological Anthropology. I am also the director of the SFU Human Evolutionary Studies Program.

With regard to research, I am working on a number of topics in evolutionary anthropology. Among these are the identification of species in the hominin fossil record, the reconstruction of fossil hominin and non-human primate phylogenetic relationships, and the estimation of body mass, stature and age from skeletal material. In addition, I am using methods and theory from evolutionary biology to investigate archaeologically - and ethnographically - documented patterns of material culture variation.
