Use Wear:
Ground Stones - Quartzite

Use Wear Type - Abrasive

Figure 1. SN 0024 Ona Adi Wedimadqos A1:2:3 Post Aksumite – abrasive wear striations Striations show as darker linear lines oriented in different directions (~40X)

Abrasive wear manifests as scratches or gouges parallel to the direction of sliding. Scratches are difficult to discern on quartz crystals because the crystals are clear and colourless. At a macroscopic level or low magnification, light scratches can occasionally be noted due to materials embedded in the gouge indicating a line across the surface (Figure 5.28). It is likely this tool was used in multiple directions, in a “fanning” motion as was demonstrated by consultants. At a higher microscopic level these lines are more difficult to locate, however they can appear as lighter coloured linear wear.
