Week 11Species Richness and Energy How are species richness and Energy related? We will look at this from two perspectives - with energy on the x axis, and then with energy on the y axis. The second view takes us straight into the final major topic: is biodiversity actually "good for anything"? The lectures themselves are: 15_latitudinal_gradient_2_1141.pdf 16_species_energy_1141.pdf For Monday's workshop: 1. Review the notes and marking rubric for the critique that I posted on week 8 2. Review Steve Heard's first two chapters from his book "Writing for your Reader." Though you aren't likely there yet, this chapter, on revising will come in useful very soon. 3. Have a read of this on-line tutorial from the Nature publishing group on giving scientific presentations. It was actually created for non-native english speakers, but it makes a lot of the main points. Be prepared to discuss it. 4. Now have a look at a student presentation from a few years ago. 5. Come prepared to present a couple of minutes each on the (i) content and on the (ii) critique of your paper as it stands. The idea is to go a bit deeper. | |||||
