Annual Lecture Series

Every year, the Centre organizes an Annual Lecture Series, in which prominent scholars researching areas pertinent to Muslim peoples and cultures present their current research in a free lecture, open to the wider public. Our Annual Lecture Series is very popular, and registration in advance is highly recommended as seats fill up. Through this lecture series, the Centre continues to fulfill its mission to facilitate public understanding of developments within the Muslim world, and to encourage the academic study of Muslim societies and cultures.

Islamic History Month Celebration

Initiated by the City of Vancouver’s Cultural Communities Advisory Committee, the CCMS is proud to help celebrate Islamic History Month. We host poets, artists, exhibitors and more at the Vancouver Public Library. This exciting, jam-packed day is a celebration and testament to the many talents in our Muslim community. This year, we focus on building relationships with Indigenous communities through our shared art and cultural practices.

Community Conversations

Continuing with our commitment to creating spaces for Muslims to unpack their experiences of being Muslim in Canada, CCMS has hosted several community dialogues as part of "Being Muslim: A Community Conversation". Prior topics include "Being Muslim - the Gendered Experience” and “Being a Muslim Newcomer”.

Look out for our next community dialogue, “Being Muslim at SFU” coming to Burnaby campus on 18 September 2019.

Community Iftaars

Following on the success of the 2018 community iftaar at the UBC Farm, the CCMS continues to host iftaars during Ramadan, with the intention providing a space for those who are fasting to break their fast alongside others from the community, build new friendships and share in the experience of the fast.
