2020 CHINESE GOVERNMENT SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM

APPLICATION DEADLINE: FEBRUARY 14, 2020

The purpose of the Scholarship Program is to strengthen mutual understanding and friendship between the Chinese people and people around the world. It supports the development of cooperation and exchange in the fields of education, science, culture, economy and trade between China and other countries.

Full and partial scholarships are offered to successful applicants to study in China.

B.C. high school students graduating in 2020, high school graduates, post-secondary students and scholars wishing to participate in Chinese language studies, academic study at the undergraduate or graduate level, or research are eligible to apply.

HONG KONG PHD FELLOWSHIP SCHEME

INITIAL APPLICATION DEADLINE: SEPTEMBER 1, 2019
FULL APPLICATION DEADLINE: DECEMBER 2, 2019

The Research Grants Council of Hong Kong is launching the eleventh round of the Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Scheme. The Fellowship Scheme will provide a competitive annual stipend as well as conference and research-related travel allowance per year for up to three years.

The application is open to candidates seeking admission as new full-time PhD students in the eight UGC-funded universities.

250 fellowships will be awarded for PhD studies commencing in the 2020/21 academic year. Initial applications will be accepted from September to December.

MEXT 2020 RESEARCH STUDENT SCHOLARSHIP 

APPLICATION DEADLINE: MAY 24, 2019

The Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) of the Government of Japan is currently accepting applications for its 2019 Research Student Scholarship for foreign students who wish to study at Japanese universities. The scholarship covers full tuition, a monthly allowance and a round-trip flight between Canada and Japan.

The Research Student Scholarship is aimed at university graduates, born on or after April 2, 1985 (for the 2020 scholarship year). The area of research or post-grad study should be in the same or related field that the applicant has previously studied.  The term of the scholarship is 18 months to two years (including 6 months of Japanese language training) starting in April or October 2020.

Applicants who successfully pass the written application screening are required to undertake an interview and examination (English and Japanese language) to be held in mid-June or early July. Please note that fluency in Japanese is not necessarily required, but dependent on the nature of the university and study program as selected by the scholarship candidate.
