About SFU Earth Sciences...

The Department of Earth Sciences is a relatively new academic unit in the Faculty of Science. It was established as a Program in 1995 and was granted full departmental status in September, 1999.

The initial conception of the Department of Earth Sciences is that it would function around a traditional geology core, have a teaching and research focus on environmental geology, and provide a program of Earth Sciences courses that would allow SFU students to register as professional geoscientists (P.Geo) with the Engineers & Geoscientists BC (APEGBC). The Department has developed according to this plan and has attained considerable strength not only in environmental geoscience, but also in traditional geology.
