    Dr. Roger Frie shortlisted for 2018 Vine Awards
    Dr. Roger Frie's Not in My Family: German Memory and Responsibility after the Holocaust (OUP, 2017) has been shortlisted for the 2018 Vine Awards for Canadian Jewish Literature in the History Category. In addition to this shortlist, Not in My Family is the recipient of the 2017 Canadian Jewish Literary Award and 2018 Western Canada Jewish Book Award.

    Province celebrates new French teacher education students and expands training efforts
    Rob Fleming, Minister of Education, joined officials from SFU, UBC, the French Consulate and the Canadian Parents for French to meet this year’s cohort of student French teachers, seeing first-hand how recruitment efforts are working. There are 17 new French-language training spaces at SFU and 20 at UBC funded by the province in partnership with the Government of Canada, as part of ongoing recruitment and retention strategies.

    Horatio Alger Association of Canada releases first-ever Voices of Our Youth survey
    The first-of-its-kind survey polled more than 2,000 Canadians aged 14-23. The results challenge much of the conventional wisdom about young Canadians and sheds lights on the world view of "Generation Z" – the group of people born in the mid- to late-1990s, after the so-called "Millennials".

    B.C. students learning for 'real life' but teachers say reality needs funding
    The Education Ministry says the curriculum overhaul, which was implemented for kindergarten to Grade 9 students in 2016, is designed to allow for more critical thinking, collaboration and communication in applying information learned in the classroom to everyday situations.
