PQP Frequently Asked Questions

I am unsure if I qualify for the PQP. What can I do?

Your first step is to call the Teacher Regulation Branch (TRB) at 604-660-6060 and ask for an evaluation of your educational background in order to determine what you need to become a BC certified teacher. The TRB requires translated transcripts and granted diplomas/degrees from all academic institutions you attended. There is an evaluation fee and the process can be lengthy. Contact the TRB directly for more information.

I am a certified teacher in my home country. How do I get certified to teach in BC?

Contact the Teacher Regulation Branch (TRB) at 604-660-6060. Ask for an evaluation of your educational background in order to determine what you need to become a BC certified teacher. TRB requires translated transcripts and granted diplomas/degrees from your home country’s post-secondary institutions. There is an evaluation fee payable directly to TRB.

No. The Professional Qualification Program is a full time program that runs from January to December.

What is the cost of the Professional Qualification Program?

The approximate cost of the PQP tuition and fees for Landed Immigrants and/or Canadian citizens is $7000. This does not include the cost of books.

Can I make my own practicum placement?

No. Practicum placement will be made at the discretion of the Program Coordinators. Expect to travel up to one hour each way to reach your practicum school.

Is BC public school volunteer experience mandatory?

Yes, all PQP applicants must have volunteer experience in the BC classroom. Read more about volunteer experience on the Admissions Requirements page. Your application will be strengthened if you seek volunteer experience at a school where the teachers must have TRB certification.
