About the Simon Fraser University Gallery: Open to the public free of charge, the Simon Fraser University Gallery operates two separate exhibition spaces, as well as managing the University's collection of some 5,000 art objects. The main gallery space on the Burnaby Campus has been operating since the university opened its doors in 1965. The galleries at SFU serve the 25,000 students enrolled at the university, as well as the faculty, staff, artists, and the public in the Greater Vancouver area. SFU is somewhat famous for its "radical" past history, and that past has had an influence on SFU's current emphasis on the ideas of inclusion and involvement. The programming at both SFU galleries similarly strives to be inclusive, while at the same time addressing the current practices and reflecting the needs of contemporary art and artists.
