Simon Fraser University Galleries

Simon Fraser University Galleries includes three spaces: SFU Gallery in Burnaby, Audain Gallery and Teck Gallery in Vancouver. All galleries are open to the public and free of charge. SFU has a collection of over 5,000 works of art, many of which are on public display at SFU campuses. The SFU Galleries serve the 30,000 students enrolled at the university, the art community and the general public. SFU is known for its radical past committed to academic freedom, interdisciplinary research, innovative pedagogy and programming, and has also seen important local and international artists teaching, studying and undertaking projects here. Within the context of this history, the galleries encourage conceptual and experimental projects that explore ways in which contemporary art is socially and politically engaged. Programming includes exhibitions, publications, talks, screenings and other events.

SFU Gallery, Burnaby Campus

SFU Gallery in Burnaby has been operating since the university opened in 1965. It is located on a major thoroughfare on campus and has a great number of visitors, largely students. The gallery exhibits contemporary, and some historical, work to offer a wider context for contemporary production locally, nationally, and internationally. The history of this region’s cultural practice is a focus and the gallery's programming works to address the historical, social and intellectual conditions specific to the Lower Mainland and SFU in relationship to global contexts.

Audain Gallery, SFU Woodward's Vancouver Campus

Audain Gallery opened in 2010 as part of the SFU Woodward's campus and faces onto Hastings Street. The gallery's mission is to advance the aesthetic and discursive production and presentation of contemporary art in Vancouver and internationally through a responsive program of exhibitions and to support engaged pedagogy. Focusing on the ways in which contemporary art is socially and politically formed and formative, the gallery undertakes local, national and international projects, including exhibitions by visiting international artists through the Audain Visual Artists in Residence Program and student exhibitions.

Teck Gallery, Harbour Centre Vancouver Campus

Teck Gallery is on the ground floor of Harbour Centre and is an active social and public space. The site, functioning since SFU opened at Harbour Centre in 1989, presents socially focused programs that engage past and present contexts.
