The first part of my Latin name - "Mormota" - actually means "Mountain Mouse".

Vancouver Marmots are very rare - one of the rarest mammals in the world! We have been endangered for over 20 years.

We are related to woodchucks and ground hogs, except we only live on Vancouver Island and have white patches.

Marmots like to burrow and sleep underground all winter, like squirrels and bears.
