We can’t believe the Spring Semester is almost over! Thank you so much for joining us over yet another busy term. Despite the challenges in navigating the online world, we have managed to host an amazing array of speakers that have educated us on unique areas in Hellenic studies! If you haven’t had the chance to join us yet, don’t worry! This term’s final events take place this week!

Staellinika heads to South America

Last month we announced, in collaboration with the General Secretariat for Public Diplomacy and Greeks Abroad of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Hellenic Republic and with the support of the Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF), that we will be working with the Greek government to make Staellinika compatible for native Spanish and Portuguese speakers.

Andreas Dracopoulos named SFU 2021 Honorary Degree Recipient

We are pleased to share the news that this June, the co-president of the Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF), Andreas Dracopoulos, will receive an honorary degree from Simon Fraser University (SFU)! The work of Mr. Dracopoulos and the team at SNF made possible the creation of the SNF Centre for Hellenic Studies at SFU. Their dedication helped grow the study of Hellenic studies in North America over the past 11 years. It is safe to say that without their invaluable support and guidance over the years, projects such as Staellinika, which has provided Greek language education to over 30,000 users around the world, would not have been possible.

Fall 2021 SNF Internship application deadline extended

In response to travel uncertainties surrounding COVID-19, we have decided to extend the deadline for applications to this fall’s SNF Internship. This opportunity is available to all SFU undergraduate students, with a preference given to those enrolled in the Hellenic Studies Certificate.

The Centre will now accept applications until June 1, 2021. Learn more about the internship in Athens, Greece.
