Congratulations to Stacey Bishop, a graduate of SFU History’s BA and MA programs, who has been accepted to pursue a PhD in History at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, starting September 2015. Stacey has also been awarded a generous six-year full funding package.

Stacey will be pursuing graduate work that examines the West Coast cities of Vancouver, Seattle, and San Francisco during the 1980s and early 1990s. Her focus will be on community demobilization and the local and state regulation of urban poverty.  She is particularly interested in tracing the legacies, both social and political, of movements for social justice from the 1960s into the 1980s alongside adjustments in policing and criminalization strategies.

She is currently establishing a committee with the advice of Professors Matthew Countryman and Matthew Lassiter.
