Calendar Navigation

Outlook for PC

Learn the basics of navigating the SFU Mail Calendar module in the Outlook 2016 for PC desktop application.

Opening the Calendar Module

Click the Calendar Icon in the bottom right hand corner of the desktop application to open the Calendar module.

Calendar Ribbon

The ribbon at the top of your calendar provides you with quick actions that relate to calendaring such as creating a new appointment or meeting, adding a new calendar, and sharing.

Navigating the Calendar Views

The Outlook desktop application provides a number of different options for calendar views. You can switch between these by clicking the Day, Work Week, Week, and Month buttons in the ribbon at the top of your calendar. Clicking the Today button will bring you back to the current date.

Mini Calendar

The mini calendar in the top left-hand corner of the navigation pane in the calendar module allows you to easily navigate through different months and years as you may need. Clicking on a date in the mini calendar will take you to that date in your main calendar, where you can then create meetings/appointments for that date.

Calendar List

In the navigation pane on the left-hand side of your calendar module, you will see a list of all the calendars you own under 'My Calendars'. If you have any calendars shared with you, they will appear in a list below under 'Other Calendars'.

Overlaying Calendars

As you select calendars from your calendar list in the navigation pane, those calendars will be opened into separate calendars in the main calendar view. There will be tabs at the top of your calendar indicating which calendars are open. To Overlay those calendars, click the arrow on the left hand side of that calendar tab. That calendar will then be overlaid with your main calendar.
