Physics: A Strategic Approach
- Calculator: The calculator you can use in the exams/quizzes is
Model SC-6108 Metallic Scientific Calculator made by Aurex (about $10,
available at SFU Bookstore and many other stores in greater
Vancouver). It’s the only
calculator you can use for all the physics, chemistry and other courses at
SFU.
- Lecture
schedule (subject to change).
- Mastering Physics (where you do assignments online).
- WebCT: http://webct.sfu.ca/ (Marks will be
available in the Gradebook).
Active Learning Laboratory (Tutorial)
We have a 50 min laboratory exercise every week. These are
held at the time of your "Tutorial" section in room P9412. The lab scripts are available on our website. The labs are
graded pass/fail. All labs must be completed in order to pass the course. If you happen to miss a lab arrange to make
it up as soon as possible.
Open Labs (Mon:
1:30-5:20PM, Tue: 12:30-5:20, P8445B)
Open labs are unstructured tutorial periods when teaching
assistants are available to answer questions and help with problem assignments.
Assignments:
There will be assignments
almost every week. Assignments consist of one or more hand written problems and
web-based Mastering Physics
assignments. They are good preparation for the quizzes and exams. Hand-written
assignments should be written on letter-sized paper, stapled and handed into the assignment box for Physics 100 in the Physics 9000
Corridor. You may expect to see similar
problems on quizzes or on the final exams.
