Alumnus designs Canucks Lunar New Year jersey

February 03, 2023

SFU alumnus Trevor Lai (BBA ’02) was tapped by the Vancouver Canucks to design their warmup jersey to celebrate the Year of the Rabbit.

The thoughtful design uses a rabbit in place of the iconic original flying skate logo and was worn during the January 24th game.

As Lai notes, “… the theme of the crest of the design revolves around speed and leaping forward. Full of energy, the rabbit is running and jumping with the Canucks into the new year, while celebrating the team and fans speeding ahead into the future.”

This isn’t the first time Lai created a warmup jersey for the Canucks. In 2022, he redesigned the C-shaped orca logo to feature a tiger jumping out of water, honouring the Year of the Tiger.

Lai is an award-winning author, illustrator and entrepreneur who has published more than 15 books for readers of all ages. He is the founder/CEO of UP Studios and host of Thoughtful China.

Fans were able to get hands on limited-edition Lunar New Year merchandise online through Vanbase.ca or at the Canucks Team Store; they sold out in the first days of being available! Partial proceeds from sales will be donated to Elimin8hate and the Vancouver Chinatown Foundation
