Geohazard assessment & monitoring

Biography

The goal of Ben's project is to provide a comprehensive hazard assessment of The Stawamus Chief and The Barrier, located near Squamish, BC. Both of these geological features have experienced significant rockfall events over the past number of years and are popular recreational areas. Using remote sensing and numerical modelling, the aim is to discern areas of particularly high risk to climbers, hikers and other recreational users on these geological features and to suggest a possible monitoring regimen to mitigate the risks involved. Remote sensing methods to be applied include LiDAR, photogrammetry and infrared thermography. This data will be used to further constrain numerical models for these two areas.
