A lot is at stake for arms control treaties at the current session of the United Nations, argues Dialogue Fellow Paul Meyer with a new op-ed in the Toronto Star:

"Undoubtedly other important arms control challenges, such as excluding weapons from outer space and cyber space, will be broached during the First Committee session. It is, however, the fate of the two treaty projects: one to set the first common standards on conventional arms exports and the other to turn off the production tap for the essential ingredient of nuclear weapons, that will colour the assessment of this session’s results for many concerned observers."
