Creating space for transformative conversations
Troubleshooting Public Engagement Featuring David Kahane
Effective public engagement processes often lead to wise recommendations and are seen as critical to the democratic process, yet the work involves big risks and challenges.
How do we mitigate those risks and plan for success? What do we do when things go sideways, whether within an engagement process or in ensuring its influence? And how do we frame and acknowledge the tensions between the implicit desire to do public good and the broader political realities that confront us?
This inaugural event in the Skillful Engagement series will create space for engagement professionals to reflect on the underlying values that drive our work, explore shared challenges, and troubleshoot tricky situations in current engagement projects. Feature speaker David Kahane will provide insights from recent work by Alberta Climate Dialogue, drawing upon decades of experience investigating democratic theory and deliberative public processes.
