Creating space for transformative conversations
October 01, 2019

Join SFU Morris J. Wosk Centre for Dialogue and Her Honour the Lieutenant Governor of British Columbia, Janet Austin, in exploring the relationship between sense of belonging and democracy.

This special event will feature storytelling by democracy practitioners from the Lower Mainland and findings from the Centre’s national opinion survey on democratic culture. Findings indicate high levels of correlation between residents’ sense of connection to their communities and their levels of democratic commitment. Does a deeper sense of belonging lead to increased resiliency in our democracy? What are good strategies to combat social isolation and promote belonging? Come prepared to contribute your ideas as we seek to expand our shared understanding in these emerging areas of inquiry.

Coffee and snacks will be served.

On the Table Series

The event is part of Vancouver Foundation’s On the Table series, an initiative to break social isolation by bringing communities together for good food and meaningful conversations on the issues that matter to them.
