Military Sexual Violence in Canada Dialogue: What We Heard Report

April 01, 2022

This report seeks to provide a summary of the perspectives offered at the Centre’s Military Sexual Violence facilitated dialogue held virtually via Zoom on October 27th, 2021 from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm PST.

The goal of this dialogue was to bring together a diverse group of experts with in-depth knowledge and lived experience with military sexual violence to formulate strategies and recommendations for addressing the current crisis of sexual violence within the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF). The dialogue was conducted under Chatham House rules to enable an open and candid discussion among participants without fear of attribution.

Guided by co-facilitators Shauna Sylvester and Elodie Jacquet, participants engaged in informed and focused analysis of ongoing patterns, limitations and obstacles to addressing military sexual violence in the CAF.  Roundtable participants also outlined indicators of success for evaluating actions, identified best practices and strategies from other jurisdictions that might be applicable in the Canadian context and recommended pathways for moving forward.
