Research Interests

Dr. Robert Williamson is an Associate Professor in Simon Fraser University’s Faculty of Education whose research examines inclusive education, complex learning needs, displacement, and the design of educational and community systems that respond to human and contextual diversity. His work is increasingly international, comparative, and partnership-based, with collaborations spanning Canada, Central Asia, Türkiye, the Middle East, and beyond. Drawing on transdisciplinary, community-engaged, and relational approaches, his research focuses on how inclusive theories, frameworks, interventions, and research processes can be designed to retain shared purposes while remaining responsive to substantial cultural, linguistic, institutional, and community variation. He is a co-founder of the Global Relational Futures Consortium, publicly known as the REACH Global Initiative, and developer of multiple community based programs that use inclusive education principles to support complex youth through community connection, belonging, and future-oriented pedagagies. His current research trajectory places particular emphasis on multilingual cross-cultural inquiry, international co-design, comparative inclusive education, and the development of research partnerships in which regional knowledge, lived experience, linguistic capacity, and locally grounded expertise contribute directly to theory, methodology, and practice.
