"Simon Fraser University needs to do better by its contract workers" by Kelvin Gawley
Kelvin Gawley, a Labour Studies student, recently wrote a piece on the Contract Worker Justice @ SFU Campaign and detailed the working situation for the SFU contract workers.
Kelvin’s article is featured on the Globe and Mail.
Kelvin would like to encourage every Labour Studies student, staff, and faculty member to get involved with Contract Worker Justice @ SFU (CWJ), by signing their petition, joining the mailing list, and volunteering. It is easy to feel overwhelmed in a world of cascading crises, but this campaign is an opportunity to fight for real, material justice in our community. It is known that people have limited free time, but whatever time or talents you can bring to CWJ would be appreciated.
The Contract Worker Justice @ SFU (CWJ) campaign is building off of years of advocacy and organizing by contract workers and their union representatives at UNITE HERE Local 40 and CUPE 3338. They have been fighting for their rights long before CWJ came along and CWJ would like to express their gratitude to be able to fight alongside the contract workers.
If you would like to be part of the solution, please reach out to CWJ on Twitter and Instagram, or check out their website.
