Welcome to the Department of Molecular Biology and Biochemistry (MBB) in the Faculty of Science at Simon Fraser University.

MBB is an active hub in a worldwide network of researchers focussed on using molecular tools to understand biology and our environment, and to improve human health.

Graduate students and post-doctoral fellows work with international teams of scientists, for example using model organisms, structural biochemistry and genomics to answer questions ranging from the origin of life to the development of an HIV vaccine.

Our undergraduate curriculum is continually updated and offers increasing opportunities for students to spend a semester or more working in a research lab. We are strong advocates of the idea that the best way to understand how science is done is to do some real science.
