PDA Professional Development Series 2026

Dear SFU Postdocs,

We are excited to invite you to join us on February 4 @ 3pm in ASB10900 for our first event of this year's Professional Development Series! Dr. Hugo Cardoso (Department of Archaeology) will lead the upcoming session "Converting an interview into a faculty offer". The session will consist of a 30–40-minute overview of the hiring process by Dr. Cardoso, followed by time for questions.

Please register here by Monday, February 2.

Besides being a Full Professor of Biological and Forensic Anthropology at the Department of Archaeology of Simon Fraser University (SFU), Dr. Hugo Cardoso is also Co-Director of the Centre for Forensic Research and head of the Juvenile Osteology – JUNO group at SFU.

Dr. Cardoso will start the session by describing the academic hiring process, beginning with the inception of a new position and continuing through to an eventual hiring. Dr. Cardoso will speak about topics beyond what the title suggests: most of the hiring process actually happens before the interview takes place. He will then be glad to answer any questions we may have for him (and we kindly note that there is an option for you to write down your questions at the survey link above).

We hope this event will help cast some light on the esoteric faculty hiring process, and look forward to seeing you there!

Sincerely,

Your SFUPDA
