Young Innovators Crawl

2014, Summit Innovation The Shock of the Possible, Arts + Culture, Future of Work

Many of you came out on Sunday, October 19 to meet Vancouver's inspiring future! The Young Innovators Crawl was your chance to meet creatives from the worlds of design, technology, sustainability, food, arts and culture, and social innovation. The Crawl kicked off at 12pm and went until 5pm, and participants explored the studios and open houses of an amazing line up of innovators. There were lively conversation, food trucks, breweries, idea jams, demos, pop-up exhibits, performances and more. After the Crawl, Vancouver Design Nerds and our young innovators met at The HiVE (210-128 W Hastings) from 5-6:30pm for an idea jam to design a supportive Innovation Framework for Vancouver.

The Crawl featured stops in Strathcona, Mount Pleasant, The Flats, Gastown, Chinatown, and Railtown. Planning your route was easy via an interactive map available online (see below), on your phone, and printed in the Georgia Straight.

Thanks for getting your Crawl on!

Why should we support Young Innovators?

Vancouver is often recognized on an international scale for its local start-up scene, engaging festivals, and explosive arts and cultural events. But there is more we can do to support our innovation ecosystem. Vancouver’s first Young Innovators Crawl celebrated and promoted the young people who are working hard to take our city to the next level.

This was a chance to meet future leaders from the diverse worlds of design, technology, sustainability, arts and culture, and social innovation, unlocking future networking and business or social opportunities. You had the opportunity to learn about the latest trends in design, technology, arts etc. and to give feedback. They say you get back what you put in, but in the world of young innovators there’s no limit to what we can achieve together.

See profiles of all our Young Innovators

The Young Innovators Crawl was open to all innovators 30 and under, whether they are flying solo or are part of a larger organization. The Young Innovators are fresh thinkers and doers from diverse backgounds including design, technology, sustainability, arts and culture, and social innovation.

Our innovators opened their doors and host live demonstrations, informal talks, pop-up exhibitions, dialogue sessions, and more.

About Innovation: The Shock of the Possible

Are you ready to explore the opportunities and challenges presented by innovation? Our 2014 Community Summit took place October 19 to 24 in Vancouver, Burnaby and Surrey and included a diverse range of activities and events. We asked what innovation means for some of the most important social, environmental and economic issues facing communities in BC, Canada, and beyond. People joined us for an evening at the Queen Elizabeth Theatre with Ray Kurzweil, Richard Florida and Amanda Lang, an ideas competition addressing sea level rise, a young innovators crawl, a national forum on innovations in undergraduate learning and a roundtable on health technology and patient care.
